16-century French explorers referred to the body of water as Rivière du Détroit, translated into English ‘River of the Strait'.  Today the Detroit River plays an integral role in the city that bares its name.

The Battle for the Iron Triangle

The Iron Triangle is facing extinction. Willets Point, is a vast neighborhood of scrap yards and auto body shops, in Queens, NY. The people of the so called Iron Triangle are fighting against the city’s plan to redevelop the neighborhood. The workers who have inhabited the neighborhood for forty years now find their jobs and their way of life in jeopardy.
